Before incorporating HDCM, Chew spent his formative years in the 1980s and 1990s practicing architecture with Brian G. Kramer Architect, Pelman Architecture, and Aitken Wreglesworth Associates. During this time, he was involved in large-scale commercial developments across the Lower Mainland.

His portfolio from this period includes the Centre Pointe Apartment Towers in Richmond’s Lansdowne neighbourhood, Royal City Centre in New Westminster, and several project phases in Metrotown’s master-planned development in Burnaby.

These early projects instilled in him an intuition for clear coordination, practical design, and the value of close collaboration with clients and consultants, principles that continue to shape his approach today.
